Alberta Beverage Container Recycling
Spacemakers was approached by Alberta Beverage Container Corporation (ABRCR) and their Real Estate Professionals in 2012 to assist with a two prong strategy to identify and evaluate potential sites for new construction, and potential existing facilities that could facilitate the operations. Through the process Spacemakers identified an existing facility that could be modified to suit the operations. The facility is comprised of a 100,000 square foot office and processing facility with over six acres of site area. ABCRC developed a scope of work and prepared an RFP to secure competitive quotes to facilitate the required renovations, Spacemakers was awarded the project. The scope of work included:
- Evaluating and incorporating environmentally sustainable and friendly solutions
- Renovate and refresh 22,000 square feet of office areas, adjust the floor plans, new flooring, ceilings, painting, walls, washrooms, and amenity spaces.
- Upgrade the warehouse, create a separate space within the warehouse through the use of pre-cast concrete and insulated panels. The areas were fitted with their own temperature and ventilation control systems.
- Incorporate two large formed in place complex concrete pits to facilitate large processing equipment and conveyors
- Refitted the operations area with energy efficient lighting, incorporated a heat recovery ventilation system for the makeup air requirements within the operations
- Designed, supplied and commissioned a large roof collected rain water system, the treated rain water is used in the operations for general purpose wash down requirements.
- Upgraded loading doors, docks, dock levelers
- General exterior refresh
- Development of a stand-alone 2.5 acre freight yard, complete with heavy duty yard structure, storm water design, landscaping, fencing, site lighting and security systems.
- The project utilized a Stipulated Price Design-Build method of delivery, delivered on time and on budget!
